Annalise Wimmer
I was born in Oslo, with Greek-Norwegian heritage. In 2020, I moved back to Norway to pursue a Master’s degree in Fine Art at the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo. I have a background in animation and design, but my current practice is rooted in sculpture. I am interested in myth-making around consumption and how this is observed and felt in a modern and carnivalesque context.
“CHIMERA”
A gaping mouth was often used as a motif in the Middle Ages to depict the entrance to the underworld. In a modern context, the fear of being eaten is no longer enough to turn to faith, but one can twist it around and ask whether we consume out of fear of being inadequate and disappearing altogether. Chimeras, or the demons that gaped and smiled, were composite figures—fantastical creatures made up of different parts that did not necessarily belong together.
The contents of a snack bag are also a composite—where many of the ingredients are synthetic and intended to replace and “enhance” the natural in a material and sensory sense.
