Jan Hakon Erichsen
I work with performance for video, which I share daily on social media. In my practice, I explore our relationship to everyday objects, often through excessive destruction or by using them in unconventional ways. My performances are largely sculptural, involving constructions ranging from simple setups to more complex apparatus—built to destroy objects of low economic value.
Over the past six years, the internet has been my primary exhibition space, allowing me to reach a wide global audience. With millions of views and a large following, I have established myself as one of the performance artists reaching the broadest digital public.
Since completing my education at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, my works have been shown in galleries and institutions both in Norway and internationally. My art has received significant attention in the international press, including Art in America, Kunstforum International, and The New York Times.
Connection to Groruddalen
I grew up in Stovner. I attended Stig Primary School, Haugenstua Lower Secondary School, and later Stovner Upper Secondary School. The first art course I ever took was a painting class at Fossum Youth Club.
I later moved to the city center, but now I have a studio at Romsås Centre, and it feels like coming home again—I even have a view of the row house where I grew up.
