New Exhibition Platform for Contemporary Art
GalleryLab is a new exhibition platform for contemporary art, collaborating with established actors on Oslo’s art scene. GalleryLab aims to encourage broader participation from across Oslo in the artistic dialogue, inviting more perspectives to create diversity and enrich the conversation. Each time a new work is presented and a new voice is heard, the city’s artistic identity and the pulse of the present are strengthened.
2026 will open with our next collaboration partner, Mesén, who for 25 years has served as a bridge-builder for public art. We look forward to a close encounter with Shwan Dler Qaradaki’s powerful and beautiful drawings at Romsås in January and February 2026.
The exhibition was first shown at Bærum Kunsthall in 2024, and with this, we are also pursuing our ambition to bring art exhibited elsewhere out to Romsås.
Our first collaboration was with the renowned Kunstnerforbundet, where we focused on artists from Groruddalen with the exhibition ØSTUTSTILLINGEN 2025.
The exhibition platform is intended as a combination of gallery and laboratory, with the ambition to show art that encompasses the familiar, the experimental, and the unexpected.
GalleryLab is run by the Ferd Art Programme and grew out of Ferd’s Oslo Initiative, which was established in 2022.
About Mesén
Since 1999, Mesén’s goal has been to serve as a creative producer for the exploration, production, and dissemination of art in public spaces—beyond the frameworks of institutions and established art venues. Mesén is a leading player in contemporary art, developing projects with a focus on place and people, in collaboration with municipalities, county councils, institutions, and private partners.
About Kunstnerforbundet
Kunstnerforbundet is an artist-run, non-commercial exhibition and dissemination institution with a focus on changing exhibitions of contemporary art and crafts from Norway and Sápmi. Founded in 1910 by young, prominent artists, Kunstnerforbundet is one of Scandinavia’s oldest artist-run galleries. Anyone can apply for exhibition space, and in recent years Kunstnerforbundet has received over 800 applications annually. More than 30,000 visitors participate in Kunstnerforbundet’s outreach programs each year.
About Atelier Kunstnerforbundet
Atelier Kunstnerforbundet is a collective studio program that promotes artistic and cultural production by offering artists free studio spaces. The program supports the development of artistic practices through guidance, production support, and collaboration with cultural actors from Norway, Sápmi, and internationally. With Atelier Kunstnerforbundet, the institution seeks to develop a more inclusive, attentive art field in close interaction with both the audience and partners.
