ART TALK: Kl 14:00
Mira, Kira, Anna, Diana
– an artist talk and a poem for the sculptures
Welcome to an artist talk in connection with the exhibition LASSET MÅ DRAS at Galleri Brandstrup and GalleryLab.
Writer Mira Hussain has been invited to read a poem addressed to the sculptures by Anna Daniell, titled “Kira” and “Diana” in the exhibition. The text is drawn from Hussain’s poetry collection Hjertet er ei rabiat bikkje (The Heart is a Rabid Dog).
Galleri Brandstrup and GalleryLab jointly present the exhibition LASSET MÅ DRAS. In this project, visual artist Anna Daniell takes on a mentor role, with two local artists participating as protégés: Diana Ahmedi and Kira Shatylo. The artists first met in autumn 2025 and have since developed the exhibition through dialogue and practical collaboration.
In the conversation, the artists will reflect on the process behind the exhibition, with particular focus on the mentor–protégé relationship.
Mira Hussain (b. 2003) grew up in Groruddalen and studies at the Writing Academy in Bergen. Hjertet er ei rabiat bikkje is her debut as an author.
Kira Shatylo (b. 2001) arrived in Norway from Ukraine in March 2022, and this is her first exhibition in the country. In the exhibition, she presents a ceramic mask in which the face is fragmented and reassembled, shown alongside abstract sculptures. She holds a BA in Culture and Arts from Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative Applied Arts and Design in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Diana Ahmedi (b. 2006) presents a large-scale painting reflecting on the relationship between identity, media flows, and consumer culture. The figure appears saturated by society’s visual economy; the boundaries between personal experience and internalized imagery gradually dissolve. Ahmedi has previously exhibited her work at GalleryLab in connection with Østutstillingen.
Anna Daniell (b. 1978) works with sculpture and site-specific projects. She studied at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Fontys Academy in Tilburg, and the European Film College in Ebeltoft. She has completed numerous public commissions, including at Oslo City Hall (2021), and her works are included in the collections of Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, the Grieg Collection, and the City of Oslo Art Collection. Daniell has exhibited at institutions such as Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Kunsthall Trondheim, Stavanger Art Museum, and Kunstnernes Hus, and has participated in several international projects and residencies.
